Arcadia

Arcadia was a project I made in the dorm I lived in that is as much about the drawing as it is its erasure. The idea came about when I was reminiscing about an argument with my step-dad as a young boy. The argument resulted in me drawing his face on my bedroom wall with a crayon. Arcadia, like my younger self's drawing, was erased to avoid conflict with someone more powerful than I. However, its erasure is also the removal of a memory. "Arcadia" is the name of the apartment complex once occupied by the biological father. The figure ominously peers into the window of my life without contact and with his removal from my life, the memory of him fades.
